DIY Wedding Present

So, I have become pretty addicted to the site Pinterest. You should totally check it out! Well we still have a lot of weddings the rest of the year and I’m trying to save a little bit of money because of all the stuff we will have to replace from the fire. I have now made my own present for the wedding we are going to this weekend. I made personalized coasters from my friends engagement pictures. So cute!

Here is what you will need to make your own coasters for someone:

  • Elmer’s glue stick
  • Tiles (I got some from Home Depot)
  • Mod Podge
  • Spray acrylic
  • Round felt pieces
  • Pictures
I got my hand on some of my friends engagement pictures from Facebook. I printed them in in 4×6′s from Walgreens. We went to Home Depot and got just the cheap white tiles that were 16 cents each. I cut the pictures down to a 4×4 to fit the coaster.I used a good ole fashion Elmer’s glue stick to glue the picture to the tile. Let that dry. I then applied a thin layer of mod podge to the top of each coaster making sure I covered the whole picture and all the way to each edge. This is the main sealant so don’t leave any un mod podged areas. It says to apply a few coats but I applied like 6 coats, letting each coat dry for at least 20 minutes. After about the 6th coat was dry I sprayed the acrylic over all the tiles. The bottle says to let dry 20 minutes between applications. I did about 3 coats of this.
After I was done I flipped over each tile and put a little felt tab on each corner and voila, you have your very own coasters!
What a great gift! They are personalized, you can give them as any gift, and it was pretty cheap to make. Enjoy and let me know if you have any questions!

  1. Where did you get your felt circles? I am all set to make this project as Christmas presents….just need the felt for the bottom.

    • I got them at Home Depot when I bought the tiles. I am pretty sure you can get them at Hobby Lobby or a craft store. Have fun! They would be great Christmas presents!!

    • I am going to also! I already started and found a little bit smaller tile that I like better, its thicker and looks more like a stone. I really like how those turned out. Enjoy! I hope they turn out great!
